To celebrate World Lion Day, our friends at WildAid produced an incredible documentary called Tanzania: Land of the Lion. This film is part of an LRF-funded project from WildAid to foster pride for lions across Tanzania, raise awareness for lion conservation at the national level, and promote coexistence among local communities.
While growing dangers such as habitat loss, loss of prey species, and poaching threaten Africa’s lions and slow their recovery, there are many conservation successes to celebrate. In Tanzania—the largest stronghold for lions in the world—the government, tourism operators, local villages, and dedicated conservation organizations have worked together to help the lion population grow to approximately 8,000 individuals. This united effort by Tanzanians to safeguard lions and their habitats enables both lions and local communities to share a more prosperous future together.
Learn how LRF grantees like KopeLion, Lion Landscapes, and other groups have helped protect lions in important Tanzanian landscapes like Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ruaha National Park by watching the documentary.
