In the past 25 years, lion populations have declined by half. Their loss signals the loss of the wild in Africa.

But, lions can return.

This #WorldLionDay we are celebrating 5 years of protecting lions through the Lion Recovery Fund (LRF). Thanks to our supporters, the LRF has:

  • Issued 200 grants to 67 organizations working across 23 countries
  • Helped remove 71,164 snares from lion habitat
  • Supported more than 12,530 anti-poaching patrols
  • Helped avert 201 lion killings by people
