Tackling the commercialized trade in bushmeat

Grantee Natural Resource Conservation Network
Type Tackling Illegal Wildlife Trade
Grant Amount $150,000
Duration 2 years

The LRF issued a grant to the Natural Resource Conservation Network (NRCN) in Uganda to help the organization tackle commercialized trade in bushmeat in the country. Bushmeat poaching is a major threat to wildlife in Uganda and one that has increased in severity as a result of the COVID-crisis. LRF’s funding will be used by NRCN to detect, arrest and prosecute commercial bushmeat poachers. In addition, the funding will support external training and mentoring for Ugandan law enforcement institutions on investigations and prosecutions of organized crime related to wildlife, and help fight corruption in wildlife crime law enforcement.
