Surveying Lions in Angola

Grantee Zoological Society of London
Type Conservation Planning
Grant Amount $95,875
Duration 2 years

The Zoological Society of London has been funded by LRF for a survey of wildlife in the lands adjacent to Liuwa Plains in Angola. This survey will be used to lobby the Angola government for the establishment of both a new national park and a transfrontier conservation area. Such a protected area and transfrontier conservation area would have significant potential to foster the recovery of wildlife populations and of lions in Angola, a country where lions are believed to be on the edge of local extinction. In addition, a contribution was made to the development of a predator management plan in the adjacent Liuwa Plains National Park in Zambia.
