Protecting and Growing Malawi’s Lion Population
Malawi represents a country where, until recently, lions were on the brink of extinction. African Parks have taken significant steps to prevent this, by reintroducing lions into Majete and Liwonde (with LRF support). They would now like to develop a national lion metapopulation management plan designed to provide strategic guidance for the reintroduction and management of lions in other reserves in the country (including Nkothakota which is also part of African Parks’s portfolio). LRF has provided African Parks with a grant to support the development of this metapopulation management plan and to support the management and protection of the lions in Liwonde National Park.
