Counting Kenya's Lions Through a Country-Wide Survey

Grantee Kenya Wildlife Trust
Type Conservation Planning
Grant Amount $110,000
Duration 1 year

Kenya holds one of Africa’s largest and most robust lion populations. However, little is known about the status and distribution of lions in the country – precluding effective conservation planning. Kenya Wildlife Trust (KWT) are going to implement a national lion survey, which will feed directly into conservation planning. KWT requested funding towards the surveying of northern Kenya, which represents the part of the country in which least is known about the status and distribution of lions. This work has potential to catalyse conservation action to protect key populations of lions that currently lack conservation attention.
