Type | Human-wildlife Coexistence |
Grant Amount | $153,700 |
Duration | 3 years |
Desert Lion Conservation (DLC) undertakes the monitoring of desert lions which feeds into the human-lion conflict project that is run by IRDNC (an existing LRF grantee). DLC fits lions with collars that are used to provide early warning to livestock farmers—enabling them to protect livestock to minimize human-lion conflict. DLC requested partial support for a new vehicle to enable them to continue to fulfill this role, in addition to training of community lion rangers and the IRDNC human lion conflict rapid-response team.
Update: A second grant was then in November 2019 issued to support the purchase of more collars, for the early-warning system designed to notify farmers when lions approach their corrals.
